Mexican authorities seize large fuel storage center in Jalisco following anonymous tip
The General Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) and the Ministry of Security and Public Protection (SSPC) seized two properties in the municipalities of Tlajomulco de Züñiga and Zapopan, Jalisco, following an anonymous tip regarding illegal fuel storage. The investigation, initiated by the Specialized Office for Organized Crime, revealed that a transportation company site was being used for the suspicious transfer and storage of hydrocarbons. In the Tlajomulco de Züñiga property, authorities secured 26 containers, 30 tractors, 21 cylindrical pipes, and 18 Frac tanks. They also confiscated six tanks, five vertical cylinders, and various electrical appliances including a spectrometer and a digital density meter. The Zapopan property yielded 21 laptops, a radio, and a short-range weapon. These actions are part of a broader federal strategy to combat 'huachicol,' the illegal theft and commercialization of fuels. This illicit market is a primary source of income for organized crime groups and causes significant economic losses for the state-owned company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
