Bogota Police Rescue Five-Year-Old Girl Left Alone in La Victoria Neighborhood
The Metropolitan Police of Bogota rescued a five-year-old girl who was found alone in a house in the La Victoria neighborhood of the San Cristóbal locality during the early morning hours of Thursday, September 3. Neighbors alerted authorities after hearing the girl crying and asking for help from a room on the third floor of the home. Police patrols arrived and found the girl in pajamas, without the supervision of an adult. Investigations revealed that her mother had left the house with other people, leaving the girl alone in the building. Officers activated the integral attention route and transferred the girl to the competent administrative authority to begin the process of restoring her rights. The Protection and Special Services Section of the Bogota Police reported that they have rescued 73 children, girls, and adolescents in situations of vulnerability so far in 2023. Authorities noted that the omission of a duty of custody by parents or legal guardians can be considered the crime of abandonment of minors under the Penal Code.
