German federal prosecutors have charged seven members of the Hamas militant group with planning coordinated terrorist attacks in Berlin and Vienna. The attacks were intended to take place around October 7, 2025, to mark the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel. The suspects are accused of procuring weapons and ammunition, including a fully automatic rifle and 13 pistols, for targets including Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers, and pro-Israel supporters. The plot became concrete by July 2025. High-ranking Hamas officials tasked the defendants with securing weapons across Europe. One suspect, currently in custody in the United Kingdom, recorded a video in August 2025 claiming responsibility for the planned attacks in the name of the Al-Qassam Brigades. Authorities arrested three of the suspects in Berlin on October 1, 2025, during a weapons cache handover. Additional arrests followed in Denmark, Cyprus, and Germany. The seven defendants remain in pretrial detention, while a separate prosecution is underway for a British national who transported and stored weapons in Vienna. The case is now before the state-security division of the Berlin Court of Appeal.
