A sudden flash flood at Mae Sa Waterfall in Thailand's Doi Suthep-Pui National Park caught several tourists off guard on August 15. The water rose rapidly from upstream, sweeping away visitors who were taking photos and swimming in the stream. Arttie Martin, a bystander who filmed the incident, noted that the flooding occurred in a split second, leaving little time for those in the water to react. Park officials and other visitors rushed to rescue those caught in the current, with many tourists scrambling across rocks to reach safer ground. While most of the victims were foreign tourists, several suffered minor cuts and bruises, and at least one visitor was taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities subsequently closed the waterfall to visitors and installed red flags and ropes to mark the dangerous conditions. The incident serves as a warning for travelers during Thailand's rainy season, highlighting the risks of sudden runoff in mountainous areas.
