Josh Green Urges Hawaii Residents to Prepare for Tropical Storm Moke Following Hurricane Lala

Hawaii Governor Josh Green has urged residents to prepare for Tropical Storm Moke, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to the islands shortly after the state was battered by Hurricane Lala. The storm is forecast to deliver 5 to 10 inches of rain on the Big Island, with some areas potentially receiving up to 15 inches. Because the ground remains saturated from the previous storm, the National Hurricane Center warns that even moderate rainfall could trigger life-threatening flooding and mudslides, particularly in the southeastern sections of the Big Island. Governor Josh Green noted that the state is already working to secure federal disaster aid and has appropriated $100 million in state funds to assist with the recovery. He highlighted that the Big Island has already seen significant infrastructure damage and is currently being supported by private donations from figures such as Marc Benioff and Michael Dell. While the storm is expected to be less intense than Hurricane Lala, the administration announced that emergency workers are already prepositioning resources to mitigate the impact on the windward and southeast-facing slopes.
