San Diego County Records Blistering High Temperatures During Intense Heat Wave

San Diego County experienced a significant heat wave this week, with temperatures reaching record highs in several areas. Escondido reached 112 degrees, while Vista and Poway both hit 105 degrees. Other notable high temperatures included 108 degrees at Gillespie Field and 107 degrees in Fallbrook. These temperatures were 15 to 25 degrees above normal for the coast and valleys. The National Weather Service reported that the heat was intensified by tropical moisture. While many parts of Southern California remained cool due to rain from Tropical Storm Marie, San Diego County received high humidity and warm overnight lows. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the coast and valleys until Thursday evening, and a Heat Advisory is in effect for mountain communities. The deserts will see highs up to 112 degrees until Friday. Cooler and drier air is expected to return this weekend, with temperatures dropping back into the 70s and 80s for most areas.
