The body of 5-year-old Saylor Hayes was recovered on Monday morning by agents from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The nonverbal child wandered away from a rental home in the Hagley Estates area of Pawleys Island on Sunday morning. Authorities conducted an intensive multi-agency search involving hundreds of people, including the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, SLED, and several local fire departments. The search utilized K-9 units, drones, boats, and a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office helicopter equipped with Project Lifesaver tracking technology. Saylor Hayes was last seen wearing a light blue bathing suit and a pink-and-white lanyard. While the child was nonverbal, officials noted she responded well to gentle tones and smiles. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office thanked the local community for their assistance in the search and offered condolences to the family.
