Markwayne Mullin predicts all field officers will have body cameras by the end of September

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that every field officer in the immigration and customs enforcement agency will be equipped with body-worn cameras by the end of September. The administration announced that the agency has now acquired enough devices to equip all officers and agents nationwide. This development follows years of officials stating that the agency lacked sufficient devices for a full rollout. The cameras are intended to help address concerns regarding transparency and accountability, particularly after federal immigration officers were involved in over two dozen shootings during the immigration crackdown under the administration. While the agency has acquired the hardware, training for individual officers remains ongoing. The administration announced that each arrest team will have at least one individual wearing a body camera. Footage will be released on a case-by-case basis as appropriate for official purposes, subject to review for privacy concerns. The rollout comes as the agency hits its highest monthly arrest totals so far this administration, with approximately 50,000 people arrested in July.
