The General Prosecutor's Office of the State confirmed that skeletal remains discovered in a clandestine burial in San Jose del Cabo belong to Carlos Alberto Beltran Olmeda. The remains were located on July 13 in a dirt track leading to the La Ballena colony, following a video allegedly linked to organized crime that provided information on the location of the body. Carlos Alberto Beltran Olmeda served as the official mayor of the XV Municipality of Los Cabos, overseeing administrative functions related to human resources and internal procedures. He resigned from his position on May 25, 2026, citing personal reasons, despite public allegations of links to organized crime which he denied. General Secretary Arnoldo Alberto Renteria Santana offered the municipal government's total collaboration with the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Investigation of the Crime of Forcible Disappearance of Persons and Disappearance by Private Parties. The office continues to investigate the circumstances of his death and the responsible parties.
