Severe weather storms moved through the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia regions on Thursday, causing significant power outages and flooding. In Pittsburgh, destructive winds and torrential rain left more than 120,000 customers without power. Duquesne Light reported over 54,000 customers without service by midnight Friday, while First Energy reported approximately 69,000 customers without power. Simultaneously, a ferocious overnight storm impacted the Philadelphia area, uprooting trees and knocking out power for residents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The National Weather Service warned of more severe storms and heavy downpours for the Philadelphia area on Wednesday. Forecasters indicated that the weather pattern would continue through Friday, with more rounds of showers and storms possible before the market settles into a more comfortable weather pattern for the Labor Day weekend.
