German Police Investigate Explosives Found at Brandenburg Power Substation
German police are investigating several improvised explosive devices found at the Preilack substation in the state of Brandenburg. The explosives were discovered near the coal-fired Jänschwalde power plant, approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Berlin. While the apparent aim of the explosives was to trigger a large-scale power outage, the grid operator 50Hertz reported only a brief interruption of service. All power lines are now back in operation, and the general electricity supply was not significantly affected. Police confirmed that no one was hurt during the incident and there was no immediate danger to the public. The Brandenburg state criminal police office has taken over the investigation to identify the perpetrators. Grid operator 50Hertz stated that unidentified perpetrators are believed to have caused damage to several power lines in its transmission grid. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday.
