AstraZeneca and Ionis Pharmaceuticals' Wainua drug fails Phase 3 trial for heart condition, challenging market expectations.

AstraZeneca and Ionis Pharmaceuticals reported that their antisense oligonucleotide drug, Wainua (eplontersen), failed a Phase 3 trial for transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). Data presented at the European Society of Cardiology meeting revealed a hazard ratio of 1.14, indicating that patients taking Wainua in combination with standard treatments had a 14% higher rate of cardiovascular mortality and recurrent clinical events compared to the placebo group.
