Abelardo De La Espriella Announces Reconstruction Plan and Economic Subsidies for Families Affected by the Choc贸 Earthquake

President Abelardo De La Espriella confirmed the launch of a reconstruction plan for the Choc贸 department following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. The administration announced that families affected by the disaster will begin receiving a monthly economic subsidy of $875.452 starting August 26th, totaling $2,626,356 over three months. To initiate the reconstruction phase, 480 tons of construction materials were delivered to families with minor home damage, while the World Bank committed $200 million in credits to support the recovery. Jaime Uribe will manage the Miracle Fund, which oversees public and private resources for the reconstruction. The administration also highlighted a partnership with the private sector, including the National Association of Colombian Entrepreneurs (ANDI), which has mobilized over COP 200 billion in donations. The plan includes a technical diagnosis of homes to determine whether they can be rebuilt or require complete replacement. This coordinated effort aims to provide housing, education, and health support while reactivating the local economy in the affected municipalities.
