President Abelardo De La Espriella orders security measures and cell inspection for Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar
President Abelardo De La Espriella ordered the National Penitentiary Institute to inspect the cell of Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar, the former governor of La Guajira. The inspection resulted in the discovery of a cellular phone, which is currently under investigation to determine its relevance to the security risks facing the Supreme Court of Justice. These security concerns were raised by magistrate José Joaquín Urbano after the Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court sentenced Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar to over 31 years in prison for aggravated homicide. Following the sentence, a bullet was found in the office of the first delegated procurator for Penal Cassation, and a window was broken in the same building. In response to these threats, the administration moved Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar to a new prison in Ibagué.
