Israel stated the objective was to create a buffer zone on the Lebanese side of the border. During the invasion, over one million civilians were displaced. Although the U.S. brokered a ceasefire this summer, Israel has continued to seize territory and destroy villages since that time. Lebanese residents have not been allowed to return to their homes.
