Eastern Iowa Faces Dangerous Heat and Humidity Through Friday
Eastern Iowa is experiencing a period of hot and muggy weather driven by a strong ridge and southwest flow. Heat index values are expected to reach the 100 to 110 degree range through Friday, making conditions potentially hazardous for outdoor activities. While some areas may see scattered showers and thunderstorms, the severe weather risk remains relatively low for now. However, a slight risk of severe storms, including damaging winds and large hail, is possible on Thursday night and into Friday morning. The heat is expected to persist through the weekend, with triple-digit heat index values possible on Saturday. Relief from the intense heat and humidity will arrive by Sunday and Monday, as a cooler, less humid, and mainly dry weather pattern moves in. A cold front moving through the middle of next week will provide a meaningful change to the overall weather pattern, bringing highs into the upper 70s to low 80s.
