Nizar Amidi confirms Iran has granted Iraqi oil tankers permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz

Iraqi President Nizar Amidi confirmed that Iran has facilitated the passage of several Iraqi oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz following repeated requests from Baghdad. The announcement follows a period of significant maritime traffic decline caused by the ongoing war between the United States and Iran. During the eighth Baghdad Dialogue conference, Amidi stated that the strategic waterway affects the entire world, not only Iraq. He emphasized that Iraq aims to avoid being dragged into the regional conflict, noting that the country is among those most affected by the war. Amidi also highlighted that Iraq faces difficulties in transporting oil due to the lack of a national tanker fleet, which has forced Baghdad to seek special consideration from Tehran. The move comes as the administration announced a plan to impose unprecedented economic warfare on Iran to force a deal on the nuclear program and the reopening of the strait. Meanwhile, the administration's efforts to end the conflict have led to the Pentagon to consider reducing its military presence in the Middle East.
