Masoud Pezeshkian States Iran is Ready to Reciprocate if the United States Reinstates June Memorandum of Understanding

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian stated at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit that Iran is prepared to immediately reciprocate if the United States returns to its commitments under the memorandum of understanding signed in June. The agreement, which aimed to end the war, included provisions for Iran to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz and for the U.S. to end its naval blockade and lift sanctions. Hostilities resumed recently after a month of relative calm, with U.S. forces conducting strikes against Iranian air defense sites and mine-laying capabilities. Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles at American bases in Jordan. President Masoud Pezeshkian noted that while Iran is not seeking war, it will respond decisively to aggression. The administration announced that it has no interest in returning to the terms of the memorandum of understanding. In a separate development, the U.N. nuclear watchdog reported that it has been unable to inspect nuclear facilities in Iran affected by the 12-day war in June 2025. Additionally, Israel detained a senior Hamas security official in a special forces raid in Gaza City, which allegedly killed four people.
