Benjamin Netanyahu Accuses Iran of Attempting to Assassinate One of His Sons
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Monday that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons. During a phone interview with Channel 14, Netanyahu stated that the Iranian plot was an "unbelievable case" and emphasized the importance of political restraint during the current election campaign. While Netanyahu did not specify which of his two sons, Yair or Avner, was the target, the accusation comes as Israel remains in negotiations for a withdrawal of forces from Lebanon. The prime minister also requested that the security agency Shin Bet provide appropriate protection for all prime ministerial candidates, specifically advocating for security for former army chief Gadi Eisenkot. Netanyahu has already secured extended personal protection for his wife, Sara, and both of his sons. The claim follows a period of intense regional conflict, including a joint US-Israeli strike on Tehran that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his family. Iran has promised revenge for these losses, with the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, pledging to avenge the former leader's blood.
