Mohsen Rezaei claims Iran tested new ballistic missile against U.S. warship during naval blockade

Mohsen Rezaei, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that Iran tested a new ballistic missile against a U.S. Navy warship for the first time during the ongoing conflict. The missile, identified as the Qassem Basir, was launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force at an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer. While the U.S. military reported that the ships faced hostile missiles and moved away without sustaining damage, Rezaei claimed the incident demonstrated that the U.S. naval blockade could be challenged. Iran has asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and has proposed an exclusion zone for vessels. In response, the U.S. military struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday to increase economic pressure. The administration announced that the U.S. Navy had cleared the strait of mines and that tanker traffic to non-Iranian ports would increase. Meanwhile, Iran warned South Korea against taking part in U.S. military activity in the region, stating that any additional military presence would be treated as direct support for the U.S. side.
