Taraneh Rahimi is sentenced to death by the Iranian regime for participating in January protests

Taraneh Rahimi and her twin sister, Romina Rahimi, were sentenced by the Iranian regime following their participation in the January anti-government protests. Taraneh Rahimi was sentenced to death by hanging, while Romina Rahimi received a 25-year prison sentence. The twins, who were 19 at the time of their arrest, were seized by security forces and subjected to four months of detention. During this period, their mother, Marzieh Nourmohammadi, reported that the sisters were subjected to severe beatings, broken limbs, and solitary confinement. Taraneh Rahimi allegedly confessed to the regime after prison guards threatened to rape her sister, Romina Rahimi, in front of her. The family of the sisters has filed complaints regarding the torture and the threat of sexual abuse. Their cousin, Masoud Nourmohammadi, stated that the regime is using the death penalty to instill fear in the public. He noted that the sisters were charged with waging war against God, a capital offense, despite a lack of evidence of their involvement in violence. The sisters' lawyers are preparing an appeal, though the regime has frequently bypassed the 18-day appeal period in recent execution cases.
