Javier Milei Courts Global Tech Giants to Establish Data Centers in Argentina's Patagonia Region

President Javier Milei is actively seeking to attract global technology companies to build data centers in Argentina's Patagonia region. The administration announced a series of incentives, including the RIGI regime and the Súper RIGI bill, to offer tax breaks and a stable regulatory environment for investments exceeding US$1bn. These measures aim to leverage Patagonia's natural resources, such as wind, solar power, and gas from the Vaca Muerta area, to support large-scale AI campuses. Several major companies have already expressed interest or committed to projects. OpenAI has committed to a US$25bn investment for a 500MW data center in the region. Polish developer Green Capital has announced a US$3.3bn investment in an AI hub in the Trelew free trade zone. Additionally, the US-based firm FlexDomes is evaluating installations in Neuquén and Mendoza. President Javier Milei also met with executives from Tesla and DayOne Data to discuss digital infrastructure. While Tesla has confirmed an agreement to install fast chargers at 17 service stations, reports of a data center investment from the company have not been finalized. DayOne Data, the international unit of GDS Holdings, is also evaluating potential installations.
