Israel Katz Warns Turkey Over Syria Airbase Airstrikes and Potential Military Escalation

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, accusing him of dragging Turkey into "dangerous adventures" in Syria. The warning followed recent Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhar airbase, which Israel claimed were necessary to prevent a Turkish military presence. Turkey denied having a military presence at the base, labeling the strikes as "unacceptable" and "reckless." Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani defended the base as being under restoration for the Syrian Air Force, noting that while Turkish officers visited for training, no permanent deployment was planned. The administration announced its concern over the strikes, with special presidential envoy Tom Barrack describing the operation as an unnecessary escalation that does not advance regional stability. While Israel maintains its security red lines, Turkey argues the strikes are intended to legitimacy Israel's expansionist policies. The administration continues to work on a de-escalation process to prevent a direct confrontation between the two regional powers.
