Israeli Forces Launch Aerial Strikes in Gaza to Protect Special Forces After Hamas Member Arrested

Israeli forces launched a series of aerial strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning to protect a special forces unit whose operation to arrest a senior Hamas official was discovered. The operation resulted in the arrest of a senior Hamas figure, who is unverified as being the head of the internal security service. During the mission, a firefight broke out at close range between the special forces and a Gazan militia. The Israeli military provided ground and aerial cover to help extract the force from the area. The strikes were launched to remove threats to the Israeli forces and were reported to have involved drones and missiles. Health officials reported that the strikes killed at least five people and wounded several others. Specifically, a drone attack in the al-Kateeba district killed four people, including two children, while a separate strike in central Gaza killed another person. The Israeli military continues to strike Gaza daily despite a United States-backed ceasefire that began in October.
