Steve Brown and Neighbors File Class Action Lawsuit Over Noise Pollution From New DataOne Datacenter
Vineland, New Jersey, residents are seeking legal recourse against the DataOne datacenter for its persistent noise pollution. Steve Brown, a 63-year-old resident living just over a mile from the site, is a named plaintiff in a lawsuit seeking class-action status. The suit alleges that the industrial drones and oscillations from the facility are a nuisance for homes within a one-mile radius, affecting over 1,000 residential properties. While the datacenter represents a significant investment in AI infrastructure, the noise has caused significant disruption for local residents. DataOne spokesperson Naomi Race stated that the company is implementing several mitigation strategies, including building a sound wall, adjusting construction schedules, and replacing diesel generators with quieter fuel cells. Despite these efforts, the lawsuit highlights a growing concern regarding the lack of federal regulation for noise pollution, which was largely defunded in 1982. The administration's efforts to regulate sound have been largely dormant for decades, leaving local communities to bear the brunt of industrial growth.
