Giorgia Meloni has become the longest-serving prime minister in Italy since the end of World War II, surpassing the 1,412-day record previously held by Silvio Berlusconi. The right-wing government, which took office in October 2022, celebrated this milestone with a rally in the port city of Bari. During her tenure, the administration announced a reduction in personal income taxes by €21 billion and successfully lowered the unemployment rate. The government also reported a sharp decline in migrant arrivals, with numbers falling from 157,651 in 2023 to 66,316 in 2024. While the administration has gained international credibility and improved Italy's fiscal position, critics argue that domestic issues such as economic stagnation, salary stagnation, and high youth unemployment remain.
