Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott is self-publishing her first novel in over a decade through a daily Substack newsletter.

MacKenzie Scott is releasing her first novel in over a decade by bypassing traditional publishers and serializing the 80,000-word manuscript directly to readers. The former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is publishing the book, titled Last Days in Two Nations (A History in Eighteen Minds), in daily installments on a Substack newsletter of the same name. Scott, a former student of novelist Toni Morrison, is returning to fiction after her last published work was in 2013. She earned a1 bachelor's degree in English at Princeton University and received critical acclaim for her debut novel in 2005. Scott has maintained a consistent schedule of posting a new chapter every day since the first installment was released. This move highlights her shift toward independent publishing, allowing her to share her work with a audience directly without the traditional gatekeepers of the publishing industry.
