Juan Carlos Valencia González is identified as the new leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel

The Mexican federal government confirmed that Juan Carlos Valencia González, also known as "El 03," is the new leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) following the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho." The Mexican Army troops killed Oseguera Cervantes during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, on February 22nd. Omar Gárca Harfuch, the head of the Secretariat of Security and Protection of Civilian Life, stated that Valencia González stands out as the primary regional leader among the group's criminal organization. Valencia González, who holds double nationality and has a US extradition order, was also identified by the National Counterterrorism Center in the United States as the new leader of the CJNG. The United States offers a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture. The CJNG is considered one of the most powerful and violent cartels in Mexico, responsible for a significant portion of the fentanyl and other illicit drugs trafficked to the United States and globally. The European Union requested that Mexico detain Juan Carlos Valencia González.
