Jurors Begin Deliberations in Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial to Determine Criminal Responsibility
Jurors have entered deliberations in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse accused of fatally strangling her three children in January 2023. The jury must decide whether Clancy committed first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter, or if she lacked criminal responsibility due to a mental defect. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued that Clancy suffered from postpartum psychosis, a mental health emergency that affects a person's sense of reality. Reddington emphasized that Clancy was in the "depths of despair" and actively sought help before the killings. Conversely, prosecutor Jennifer Sprague argued that the killings were planned and deliberate. Sprague noted that Clancy allegedly sent her husband to a restaurant to ensure she had enough time to kill the children. Sprague also argued that the case is not about the healthcare system, but rather about whether Clancy could recognize her actions as wrong.
