Brian Znotins of American Airlines Announces Expansion of International Network with Seven New Routes for 2027

American Airlines is expanding its international network for 2027, adding seven new routes and three new destinations. Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, stated that the expansion includes new non-stop service to Porto, Portugal; Vienna, Austria; and Reykjavik, Iceland from Philadelphia. American Airlines will be the only U.S. airline serving Vienna, with the route extending through early January 2028 to accommodate winter holiday travel. Additionally, the carrier is increasing service between New York and London, restoring a fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow. The airline is also introducing new service to Amsterdam and Nice, France, from New York, and a new route from Charlotte to Barcelona. The expansion utilizes the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrow-body aircraft that is more cost-effective to operate than wide-body planes. These new routes are designed to meet growing demand for international travel, particularly in smaller European cities and during shoulder seasons. Tickets for the new summer routes will go on sale August 31.
