President Donald J. Trump's name to return to the Kennedy Center facade despite court order

The Kennedy Center board of trustees has voted to add President Donald J. Trump's name back to the building's facade, despite a federal court ruling that the venue must remain named for President John F. Kennedy. The board, which is largely composed of allies of the president, plans to add the inscription "Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump" below the existing name. If the Trump Kennedy Center Fund reaches $100 million, a third line will be added to recognize the endowment. Additionally, the board plans to rename the physical grounds of the center "President Donald J. Trump Plaza." Representative Joyce Beatty has filed an emergency motion to block this move, arguing that only Congress can change the name of the center. She characterized the board's decision as a "breathtaking act of defiance" against the judiciary. While the board intends to wait until September 8 to implement the changes, Beatty's legal team is urging the court to take immediate action to prevent the board from knowingly violating the law. The center's facade currently remains covered by a tarp while structural repairs are conducted.
