Andy Beshear Criticizes Mitch McConnell for Lack of Communication Regarding Health Status
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has publicly criticized Senator Mitch McConnell for failing to provide consistent updates on his health following a lengthy hospitalization. Despite being hospitalized in mid-June due to a fall and a mild case of pneumonia, McConnell has shared limited information with the public, prompting Beshear to issue a formal request for a status update. Beshear noted that the people of Kentucky are McConnell's 'boss' and urged the senator to provide a direct verbal update to his constituents. The governor also faulted Senate Majority Leader John Thune for not taking more initiative to confirm McConnell's capacity to serve. While McConnell was recently discharged from a rehabilitation center to continue his recovery at home, he has yet to make a live public appearance. Conservative supporters of the senator maintain that he remains engaged and physically sound. However, Beshear argued that the lack of transparency from the Republican-controlled Senate feels 'broken' and lacks accountability to the people of Kentucky.
