King Harald V of Norway will be honored in a historic funeral ceremony in Oslo on September 9th. The late king, who reigned for 35 years and died at the age of 89, was known as a modernizing figure who served his people with warmth and humility. The funeral will feature a large procession from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral, where a service will be led by Bishop Olav Fykse Tveit. Prince William will attend the ceremony representing King Charles III, while Princess Anne will attend in a personal capacity. The event will draw many of Europe's royal houses, including King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, and King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The funeral follows a period of personal challenges for the Norwegian royal family. Queen Mette-Marit is recovering from a lung transplant and has faced scrutiny over her past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, her son from a previous marriage, Marius Borg Høiby, was recently convicted of rape charges and sentenced to four years in prison.
