Greenpeace Mexico activists protested the planned ammonia megaplant project in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, by scaling the 100-meter flagpole in Mexico City's Zócalo. The activists deployed a blanket with the message "Presidenta: Protect Topolobampo" to demand that Claudia Sheinbaum intervene to halt the project. Greenpeace Mexico stated that the plant could cause serious environmental impacts and contamination problems in the zone. In contrast, the Secretary of Agriculture highlighted the importance of supplying ammonia to farmers and the benefits of having an essential input at hand to make land productive. Claudia Sheinbaum noted that personnel from Semarnat, Conagua, and other departments have been holding assemblies with residents in the region for three months. The Heroic Corps of Firefighters and the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad arrived at the scene to monitor the peaceful protest.
