Javier de la Fuente oversees rigorous in-person control exam for UNAM to rectify massive online fraud

The administration announced that the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has implemented a rigorous in-person control exam to address significant fraud during the initial online test. Javier de la Fuente, the university's secretary general, led the evaluation at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, where approximately 43,000 applicants attended over three days. To ensure integrity, the university increased supervision, providing one supervisor for every 28 students, compared to the previous remote format. Applicants were required to have their phones and accessories turned off and placed under their chairs. Javier de la Fuente noted that while the online test was a noble attempt, the unexpected level of fraud required a transparent correction. The exam serves as a second chance for students who achieved high scores before the fraud occurred. While some students expressed anxiety over the repeating the test, the university remains confident that the results will reflect individual effort rather than external assistance.
