Travelers Prepare for Record-High Gas Prices and Busy Flights During Labor Day Weekend

Travelers across the United States are preparing for a busy Labor Day weekend, with the Transportation Security Administration expecting to screen more than 17 million people at airports. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that Thursday, September 3, will be the busiest travel day with nearly 54,000 flights. United Airlines anticipates 3.4 million passengers, while American Airlines expects more than 3.5 million travelers. Gas prices are expected to reach a record high for the holiday. GasBuddy predicts the national average will be $4.03 per gallon, which would be the highest Labor Day price on record. In Nebraska, the average price has jumped nearly a dollar compared to last year, reaching $3.92 per gallon. Travelers are advised to plan ahead. The Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration and INRIX reported that the busiest travel days will be Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7. Road traffic is expected to be heaviest on Thursday afternoon and Friday during the day. To save on fuel, experts suggest checking prices along a route before departing and maintaining correct tire pressure.
