Lin Chia-lung Condemns China's Assertive Diplomacy and Espionage During Pacific Islands Forum

Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung criticized China's "wolf warrior" diplomacy during the recent Pacific Islands Forum in Palau. Lin Chia-lung stated that China's aggressive remarks and threatening behavior, such as declaring Palau an "unsafe travel destination," were off-putting and could undermine regional unity. He also noted that Chinese officials engaged in a form of espionage at the summit, necessitating strengthened security measures by the host nation. The forum was also marked by China's objections to Taiwan's presence, with Beijing claiming Taiwan was not qualified to attend. While the Pacific leaders agreed to register collective concern regarding a ballistic missile test conducted by China in July, the statement was not unanimous. Meanwhile, the forum's final communiqué urged for future missile tests to be given more notice, though it did not mention China by name.
