Jurors in Lindsay Clancy murder trial speak out on lone holdout who prevented unanimous verdict

A jury of 12 people was unable to reach a unanimous decision in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of strangling her three young children in 2023. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after the jurors were split 11 to 1 in favor of finding Clancy not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis. Several jurors, including Paula Devlin and Nick Dargie, reported that the lone holdout juror, a Black man in his 30s, remained firm in his belief that Clancy should be found guilty of first-degree murder. While the 11-person majority felt Clancy was not criminally responsible, the holdout juror expressed doubt about whether the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington filed a motion to dismiss the mistrial and have Clancy acquitted. He argued that the holdout juror did not follow the proper procedure for reasonable doubt. Jurors noted that the holdout juror occasionally acted out the killings by tying an exercise band around a water bottle. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for Sept. 29.
