Hamilton County Commissioner Christine Altman Outlines Recovery Plans Following Historic Flooding

Hamilton County Commissioner Christine Altman stated that local leaders are moving forward with assessment, recovery, and reconstruction efforts following historic flooding that broke a century-old record. The White River crested at approximately 24.60 feet, causing significant property damage and displacing residents across the county. Altman noted that the county was blessed to have government entities working together to manage the situation without significant loss of life. While the water is now receding, officials are monitoring dozens of road closures and assessing the structural integrity of major roadways, such as the bridge on Hazel Dell Parkway. In neighboring areas, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for central Indiana, warning of potential flash flooding and wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. Meanwhile, in Columbus, the Flatrock River flood warning was canceled, while the Driftwood River near Edinburgh remains under warning until Tuesday. Recovery efforts are being supported by local sports franchises, with the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers donating $250,000 to disaster relief.
