Seven Democratic candidates compete to replace Michael Morrissey as Norfolk County District Attorney in Tuesday's primary election.

The field of candidates includes Jim Barakat, Gregory Connor, Adam Deitch, Robert Jubinville, Macy Lee, Craig MacLellan, and Djuna Perkins. All seven candidates are attorneys, consisting of experienced prosecutors and at least one defense attorney. Michael Morrissey announced earlier this year that he would not seek another term. His tenure included high-profile cases such as the murder trial of Brian Walshe and the investigation into the death of Sandra Birchmore. He also faced criticism regarding the handling of the Karen Read prosecution. The winner of the Norfolk County primary will advance to the November general election, where independent candidate Joe Pagliarulo is already on the ballot. In neighboring Suffolk County, voters will also decide a district attorney primary. Incumbent Kevin Hayden is seeking another term but faces challenges from Linda Champion and Rachael Rollins. No Republican candidates are running in Suffolk County, meaning the Democratic primary winner will likely enter the general election as the favorite.
