San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones confirmed that a 46-year-old woman died after drowning during severe storms that hit the city on Friday, August 28. The San Antonio Police Department is investigating the death, which occurred when two individuals were swept away by rapidly moving water in a drainage area near the 500 block of Quincy Street. While one person was able to escape the water, the 46-year-old woman was located deceased the following evening. Severe weather caused extensive damage across the city, including power outages that affected nearly 250,000 homes at their peak. CPS Energy crews worked to restore power to thousands of customers, reporting that 4,300 customers remained without power as of early Monday morning. The storm also caused 24,000 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in the service area. The city-owned utility prioritized repairs for critical facilities, including medical centers and police stations. Power was restored to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, which had been running on backup generators on Saturday. Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai confirmed the facility is now fully operational.
