The Ministry of Transportation urges highway concessionaires to prioritize empathy and solidarity over fines for aid vehicles.

The Ministry of Transportation has called on highway concessionaires to prioritize the delivery of humanitarian aid following the earthquake that occurred on August 10th. Despite the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) announcing toll-free passage for vehicles carrying emergency supplies, two specific cases of fines were reported. In one instance, a vehicle was fined 1,200,000 pesos at the Cajamarca toll station in Tolima for a 60-kilo overweight load. To address these complaints, the Ministry of Transportation requested that concessionaires lift the fines and ensure that procedures do not become obstacles for food, water, and medicine. The National Government has taken extraordinary measures to facilitate the movement of machinery and equipment to affected zones like Valle del Cauca and Quindío. The Ministry emphasized that the priority is the families affected by the earthquake, urging all officials at weigh stations and toll booths to act with common sense and solidarity during the emergency response.
