Suffolk County Police Arrest 15 People Following Reckless Street Takeover in Medford
Suffolk County Police Department officers arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles following an alleged street takeover in Medford, New York, early Saturday morning. The Street Takeover Task Force identified the gathering through social media monitoring and intelligence gathering, allowing them to track the group as they moved across Long Island. Drivers performed donuts, burnouts, and reckless stunts that effectively shut down Sawgrass Drive near Woodside Avenue. Authorities intercepted the crowd at approximately 12:50 a.m. to secure the area and issue multiple traffic tickets. Fourteen of the 15 suspects were charged with both participating in and spectating an unlawful speed contest. Jeremy Geevarghese was charged solely with Participation in an Unlawful Speed Contest. The crackdown follows the creation of the Street Takeover Task Force in November 2024. The task force has since made over 100 arrests and impounded more than 150 vehicles to manage illegal racing meetups that create hazards for other drivers.
