Mexican authorities seized over 4 million fentanyl tablets from the Los Rusos criminal group in Mexicali

Mexican federal and state authorities secured over 4 million fentanyl tablets, weighing 120 kilograms, during a targeted operation in Mexicali, Baja California. The seizure occurred in a building linked to Los Rusos, a criminal cell of the Sinaloa Cartel led by Juan José Ponce Félix, who is a primary target for the FBI. The operation involved cooperation between the General Attorney’s Office, the Secretariat of Defense, and the Secretariat of Marine, alongside state authorities. Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch highlighted the international cooperation and investigation capacity of Mexican institutions in translating information into concrete results against criminal organizations. Los Rusos has expanded from a hitman cell to a lieutenant-level group controlling criminal activities across the Mexicali Valley and parts of San Luis Río Colorado. The group is responsible for several high-profile arrests and drug trafficking operations along the US-Mexico border. The FBI currently offers a $5 million reward for information leading to the capture of Juan José Ponce Félix.
