Marvin Ellison leads Lowe's Foundation in launching a coalition to train one million skilled tradespeople by 2035

Marvin Ellison, the CEO of Lowe's, has launched the Building Futures Skilled Trades Coalition to address the national shortage of skilled workers. The coalition, which includes over 75 partners such as NVIDIA, General Motors, and Bank of America, aims to train and certify one million people for careers in plumbing, electrical work, welding, and HVAC by 2035. This initiative builds on a $250 million investment by the Lowe's Foundation to develop 250,000 tradespeople. The coalition seeks to change the perception that a four-year college degree is the only path to professional success. It focuses on three areas: changing perceptions of skilled trades, scaling proven training solutions, and measuring progress from training to employment. The U.S. Department of Education estimates that 2.1 million skilled trades jobs could go unfilled by 2030. The coalition includes various organizations, such as Cape Fear Community College and unCommon Construction, which are already implementing training programs and grants to develop local workforces.
