The meeting took place because Howard Lutnick could not complete his flight to Mexico due to weather conditions. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexico will maintain a firm stance in negotiations to ensure that agreements do not affect national sovereignty or the national economy. The primary goal is to eliminate tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles. The discussion focused on the trade matters under review of the T-MEC agreement, which includes Canada. President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that it is convenient for all three countries to maintain the agreement. The conversation also addressed 54 non-tariff barriers proposed by the United States regarding intellectual property, piracy, and medicines. Most of these barriers have been resolved, with some remaining for future cooperation.
