Roberto Velasco Álvarez, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Relations, stated that the government is seeking to determine responsibility for these deaths, particularly in cases of alleged neglect or medical deficiencies. While some U.S. states, such as Florida, have acknowledged the complaints and concluded that certain deaths were suicides, other regions like California, Illinois, and Texas are currently evaluating potential actions. The Mexican government has also requested a formal investigation from the U.S. Department of Justice. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that the government is intervening directly to defend the rights of Mexican citizens abroad. To support the families of the deceased, the government has disbursed over $24,000 for repatriation. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has acknowledged the Mexico's concerns and will continue to monitoring conditions in detention centers.
