A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Gulf of Aden early Friday morning, jolting the region between Somalia and Yemen. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake occurred at approximately 12:07 a.m. local time, at a depth of 6.3 miles. While the magnitude was recorded at 6.1 by the Saudi Geological Survey, other agencies reported a magnitude of 6.2. Officials stated that earthquakes above magnitude 6.0 are uncommon in Somalia, making this event rare and significant for the region. The shaking was strong enough to be felt indoors, causing dishes, windows, and doors to rattle and walls to make cracking sounds. Shaking was also recorded near the other border between Djibouti and Somalia. No immediate reports of damage, injuries, or deaths have been issued at this time.
