Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber at the Engels-2 airbase

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the Security Service of Ukraine's Alpha unit successfully struck a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber at the Engels-2 airbase in the Saratov Oblast. Satellite imagery confirms the aircraft sustained significant damage to its right wing and tail section, likely rendering it beyond repair. The Tu-95MS is a nuclear-capable bomber frequently used by Russian forces to launch cruise missiles against Ukraine. In addition to the bomber strike, Ukrainian forces targeted an oil refinery in the Yaroslavl region, located 1,000 kilometers from the front line. These long-range strikes are intended to reduce Russia's capacity to launch missile attacks and force the Russian military to feel the consequences of its own war effort. The administration announced that the strikes were a direct response to Russian attacks on Ukraine. While the Russian military continues to offensive operations in several directions, Ukraine is maintaining a defensive posture and conducting repeat strikes on Russian energy infrastructure to prolong fuel shortages and delay repairs for the Russian military.
