City Manager Joe Irvin announces the immediate cessation of Malibu Farmers Market operations at Legacy Park.
City Manager Joe Irvin announced that the Malibu Farmers Market will immediately cease operations at Legacy Park. The move follows an extended period of collaboration between the city and the market operator to find a sustainable, compliant path forward. While the city recognizes the market's community value, the current site was never intended as a permanent location and lacks the own infrastructure to handle high visitor activity. Key issues include public safety concerns, limited parking, and restricted access for neighboring businesses. Market vendor vehicles and booths currently occupy nearly 40% of the available public parking in the Civic Center area. Joe Irvin stated that the goal is not to shut down the market entirely, but rather to return it to its approved home on the County lot. The city has offered to host the market in an approved location outside of City Hall while the permanent license is processed by L.A. County.
